Olympic Peninsula / by Andrew Tat

Jeff had never backpacked before and wanted to explore the Olympic Peninsula. So, one weekend, we packed our bags and headed towards the Bainbridge Ferry for a few days roaming the Olympics.

After passing through Neah Bay and grabbing permits, we headed towards the Shi Shi Trailhead and began our hike out. For once, I had another photographer with me and mostly kept my camera in my bag *gasp*.

After what felt like an eternity getting around large patches of mud and traversing the beach to the Point of the Arches, we finally reached our campsite.

Unfortunately, the fog didn't clear, but that didn't stop us from exploring the region.

After packing our bags, we headed back to the car and towards Cape Flattery.

After Cape Flattery, we had to figure out what to do next. We weren't sure if we wanted to continue hiking, or just catch the stars someplace. After talking to the rangers in Port Angeles, we decided to go up to Hurricane Ridge, where we ran into Madolyn! Small world.

After finding our spot, we made dinner and waiting for the stars to come out.

And then caught sunrise.

With nothing else to really do unless we wanted to drive back towards the coast again, we decided to head back to Seattle. Not too shabby a first time for backpacking for Jeff.
